The Facts About Your Water
President's Anti-Cancer Panel Recommends Home Filtered Water
In its official annual report, the President’s Cancer Panel is recommending people use home filtering devices to decrease exposure to cancer-causing agents.
“This reaffirms what independent testing shows,” said Peter J. Censky, executive director of the Water Quality Assn. (WQA). “Home water treatment is a proven final barrier against many harmful chemicals.”
The report is titled, “Reducing Environmental Cancer Risks: What We Can Do Now.” In it, the panel states, “Individuals and families have many opportunities to reduce or eliminate chemical exposures. For example, filtering home tap water or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens or endocrine-disrupting chemicals.” (more)
The Chlorine Truth
Chlorine has been used by cities and townships to help rid water supplies of harmful biological agents since 1908. The Federal Government started requiring cities and municipalities to add chlorine to the public water supply in 1974. Since that time incidents of bladder cancer, rectal cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, heart disease, asthma, eczema, and many more maladies have gone up significantly. The reason these diseases have become much more prevalent is because of the chemical reaction in your tap water. (more)
Standards and Regulations for Bottled Water
Bottled water, because it is defined as a “food” under federal regulations, is under the authority of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) while the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)—under much stricter standards—regulates tap water. Thus, bottled water, depending upon the brand, may actually be less clean and safe than tap water. (more)
The Effects of Bottled Water on the Environment
It is hard to argue the fact that waste management has become a large problem in the world, with landfills growing to enormous sizes and recycling rates remaining dismally low. The number of plastic bottles produced by the bottled water industry and subsequently discarded by consumers has only exacerbated this problem. (more)
